Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz is the latest footballer to test positive for COVID-19.
The 2019-2020 Spanish champions confirmed this in a statement below.
“After the Covid-19 tests carried out individually on our first-team yesterday by the Real Madrid Medical Services, our player Mariano was given a positive result”
“The player is in perfect health and complying with the sanitary isolation protocol at home.”.
The announcement came as the team returned to practice ahead of its Champions League match against Manchester City on 7th August 2020.
His positive result means that he will surely miss his club’s next champions league tie with Manchester City and it has also put the match in doubt.
Real Madrid lost at home 2-1 in the first leg of the round-of-16 series before football activities were suspended due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.
Mariono joins the list of footballers to have tested positive for COVID-19 which include Ugandan striker Derrick Nsibambi, Mourane Fellaini, Paul Dybala and many others.
