Rwandan giants APR FC are closing in on the signing of promising and towering KCCA FC defender Samuel Kato Nemeyimana, BigWhale Sports has learnt.
According to the News Time, a Rwanda News paper, the promising and towering defender is on the verge of joining the Rwandan club after reportedly agreeing to personal terms and what’s only remaining is an agreement between the two East African clubs since he’s still having a 3-years employment contract with the Lugogo based club.
Formerly at Buddo ss, the 21 year old defender made his senior debut for KCCA FC against Tanzanian Giants Azam FC in the group stages of the CECAFA Club Championship held in Rwanda last year during his senior six vacation.
He went on to play all the remaining games and was a key member in KCCA FC’s journey to end the 49 years wait without winning the CECAFA Clubs Championship.
Kato played five games in the 2019 CECAFA club Championship, keeping two clean sheets both coming against Azam FC in the group stages and in the final.
He also featured prominently and consistently in the Mutebi coached side in last season’s Startimes Uganda premier league, a season KCCA finished second behind champions Vipers SC following the premature ending of the league due to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus.
The center-back’s chances of further first-team action at KCCA FC next season suffered a blow earlier when the club snapped up free agent and versatile Denis Iguma and he’s now contemplating to continue his career elsewhere.
Born to a Rwandan father and Ugandan mother, Kato is eligible to represent one of the two East African countries at international level as he hasn’t featured for any of the two countries in an official FIFA recognized match and a move to the Rwandan club will increase chances of him choosing Rwanda over Uganda.
