Uganda Cranes preparations ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup Qualifiers have been hit by the injury of Portuguese based forward Edrisa “Torres” Lubega that is most likely to rule him out of the first two crucial group E World Cup Qualification games against Kenya Harambee Stars and Mali.
The pacy forward is one of the few foreign based players head coach Milutin Micho Sredejovic had included in his squad but a muscle strain he got while turning out for his club Estrela in their Segunda league 3-1 win against Farense over the weekend could rule him out.
“I am glad I have been called to represent my beautiful country Uganda but sadly I may not make it because of my injury I got over the weekend but I am glad I was thought about and I will come back stronger next time.”
He posted on his WhatsApp status before adding.
“I think my injury maybe about one week but that’s the time of the games of my beautiful nation Uganda so sadly I can’t make it.”
Lubega joined Estrela in this transfer window from Czech Republic side Pribram and has since featured in three league games raking 149 minutes with no goal yet.
Other foreign based players expected to join the Cranes in Ethiopia are Tanzanian based duo of Khalid Aucho and Taddeo Lwanga, custodian Ismael Watenga and Moses Waiswa.
The Cranes who are already in Ethiopia play against the home side on Sunday 29th August in a build up match before the real test against Kenya Harambee Stars on 2nd September in Nairobi before entertaining West African side Mali on 6th at the St.Marys Kitende stadium.
