FWEL: Robbery of money and phones cut short Kampala Queens victory celebrations against UCU

Kampala Queens might have completed a double over UCU Lady Cardinals in a 2-1 victory in an exciting encounter played at Old Kampala primary school grounds on Sunday in the FUFA Women Elite League but little did they know that their wild celebrations would shortly last minutes after the final whistle following robbery of money and three mobile phones including Lillian Mutuuzo’s by unknown people who broke into the room during the course of the match.

The real match,

The hosts started on a bright note when Damali Matama broke the deadlock with shot out side the 18 yard box in the second minute that left UCU custodian Ruth Aturo helpless.

Six minutes later, Kampala Queens doubled their lead through Lillian Mutuuzo after a lapse in defence of the visitors.

UCU tried to launch attacks through Hasifa Nassuna before they found the back of the net at the stroke of half time only to be cancled for offside.

In the second stanza, the visitors made some changes most notably that of Kenya’s Moureen Kinavudouri who sparked more fire into the game with her physic prowess attack along Nassuna.

With less than ten minutes to play, UCU were reduced to ten players following a second booking to defender Mercy Nabulobi for unsporting conduct on Resty Nanziri.

With five minutes to stoppage time, Hasifa Nassuna found a consolation for UCU with a poachers strike to take her season tally to 13 goals.

The result saw Kampala Queens leap frog UCU at the summit on goal difference but same points.

Reactions from the coaches,

Farida Bulega (KQ. head coach)

“It was a great perfomance as we badly needed to win to close the gap and brighten our dreams to play in the playoffs. My players gave in their best as they promised to our boss and this is his win”.

Roger Kezi (UCU ass.coach)

“It was not a bad match but as you know football anything can happen, we are going to go back to the drawing board and revise our mistakes and hopefully we win our remaining games and make it to the playoffs”.

In the other results, defending champions Kawempe Muslim SS unbeaten record came to an end following a 0-1 home defeat to the ever rising Lady Dove thanks to a Grace Babirye lone strike.
