Nicholas Kabonge’s talent and ability can never be doubted and one would hardly believe the previous Uganda Premier League season of 2019/20 at SC.Villa was his maiden but it’s the fact.

The former Lungujja Galaxy player who many believe would have played in the top tier way back spent five years in the Masaza tournament featuring for Kyadondo, Buwekula and Gomba.

With many people attributing the situation to fear of losing out on the hefty sign on fees and bonuses that come along prior to the tournament due to ineligibility once you play in the top tier or any national side as well as the Big league, Kabonge thinks otherwise.

“Taking long in Masaza wasn’t because of not wanting to play in the top flight, but maybe my time had not yet come.”

He exclusively told this website.

“I tried alot of teams and they were not convinced yet with my playing style but i kept trying my luck else where until SC.Villa deal came in. Masaza is just a tournament with hype that helps us to get exposed to top flight football and indeed it helped me to achieve it.”

He added.

Kabonge’s most memorable moment in the Masaza tournament came in 2017 when he guided Gomba to the championship scoring the only goal against Singo at Namboole stadium.

In his debut season in the UPL and the Jogoos, Kabonge who joined in 2019 from Kampala Junior Team managed 21 games, scoring twice and registering three assists which saw Villa finish in third place in a season that prematurely ended due to the pandemic covid-19.

He started his career at Lukuli academy and later played for Lukuli United in 1st division.

He then joined Lungujja Galaxy from where he was signed by Kampala Junior Team and then SC.Villa.

Kangonge’s achievements.

From childhood, he has been champion winning trophies for teams as well as bagging personal accolades like the Universty League in 2016 with Kampala University as well bagging the MVP accolade, played in the East Africa university games with K.U in 2016 in Kenya, guided Lungujja Galaxy promotion to the Regional League, won the Airtel Masaza cup in 2017 with Gomba scoring the only goal against Singo, participate d in the soccer international cup in Spain 2018 were he was named MVP and also guided KJT to promotion from 1st division to Regional League.
