Mayanja to deputise Mutebi at AS Kigali

Former KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi will be the next AS Kigali head coach after both parties agreed terms.

Mutebi arrived in Kigali on Tuesday and went into the Covid 19 mandatory quarantine at a Pentecost based hotel Dove.

At the Kigali based club, he will be deputised by former Uganda Cranes skipper Jackson “Mia Mia” Mayanja.

With Mayanja having previously worked in Rwanda as coach and his great awareness about Rwanda football, his appointment to deputise Mutebi was inevitable.

The two who attended the club’s league game at Bugesera on Wednesday evening are expected to be officially unveiled this replacing interim manager and former Rwanda Amavubi Stars player Jimmy Mulisa who replaced Eric Nshimiyimana.

It should also be recalled that AS Kigali approached Mutebi after last year’s CECAFA club Championship in Tanzania but he put them on hold.

Mutebi has been unemployed since he was relieved of his duties at KCCA FC in March last year and so is Mayanja after parting ways with Kyetume FC.

AS Kigali was established in 1999 and host their games at Kigali Stadium located in Nyamirambo.

They have won the Rwandan Cup two times and the Rwandan Super Cup two times.
